| TV Stations Capture L.A. Police Chase YAHOO NEWS / MAY 12, 2005 LONG BEACH, Calif. - A high-speed chase being televised live ended with police fatally shooting a suspected car thief brandishing a gun. The nearly 40-minute chase Wednesday reached speeds of up to 100 mph. At one point, the driver crashed into a highway guardrail, and he also came within several feet of hitting a man and his 4-year-old daughter on a residential street. The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was shot after he jumped out of the car with a gun in his hand, and seemed to be heading toward a shopping center, police said. <source: yahoo news Comment: I am not advocating protection for foolish people risking the lives of others. If you are in a police chase because you are guilty, it's your own fault. The problem is what happened after they got this man! Read the full story, then watch the video! To watch the video, go to the full story and click under the picture. Watch close! The man jumps out of his car with a gun, but he runs from the police. Yes, there is a risk he could harm others. So, the police shot him in the leg. I don't have a problem with that. After they shot him in the leg, he falls. He loses the gun, it goes sliding across the parking lot. After the man is down, the police shoot him several more times. They are shooting so much that you can see the dust from the bullets that miss. The man probably deserved to go to jail. Did he deserve the death penalty? Click here for the full story and video. |
